At any point in time as an athlete, you may be needing to travel – overseas, to the next city, to training camp, home, etc. It is inevitable. However, one of the main mistakes I see is when an athlete gets to a city that they will be in for a while, they eat out because they “haven’t grocery shopped” and “don’t know what to buy.” I always tell them, don’t stress, just use the 2-2-2-2-2 rule!
Step 1: Assess the fridge and pantry.
Step 2: Decide what meals you need to get groceries for (lunch & dinner? breakfast & lunch?)
Step 3: Head to the store and grab 2 types of protein, 2 types of starches, 2 types of fruit, and 2 types of veggies, and 2 types of fat if you don’t have any in the pantry.
Step 4: Create recipe-free meals quickly to hold you over until you know what the next move will be!
